What does FAQ stand for?
Frequently Asked Questions.
Do you take requests?
Maybe. If we have the song and like it. Can't hurt for you to ask.
Where in Texas?
My people all used to be from near Ft. Worth. Now they're from metro-Ft. Worth. They still live in the same place; it hasn't actually moved, nor have they. But apparently Ft. Worth has quite a lot. Last place I lived was Waco. If I moved back, I'd head straight for Austin. Got a history with Georgia, too. Georgia is also good.
Is there any way I can help support your station?
Yeh. Coupla ways, actually.
- Most importantly, listen to us. Lots. And, if you like what you hear, drop a line and say so. Never underestimate the value of moral support.
- TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT US! Got friends? Do they like country music? Yes? Tell 'em about us. Often. No, they don't like country music? Nag 'em. Sooner or later they'll change their minds and love you for it.
- If you're thinking about subscribing to eMusic, send me an email first! If you let me send you to eMusic as a referral, they'll give me free songs -- which will will turn up on TExR's playlist. eMusic are like iTunes, but better: they specialise in indie; they have tonnes of good Alt-Country, Americana, Texas Country and Red Dirt; they cost less than 1/3rd the price of iTunes; they're 100% legal; and they don't cripple their .mp3's with DRM.
- Go to the merchandise page and buy a t-shirt or a coffee mug or something. Help promote us.
Anything else?
Sure. Tip us. Like in a restaurant. See that PayPal button over there to your right? Click it. I'm not a non-profit organisation or a charity, but I'm not running TExR to make money either; I just want to cover costs and spin good music. Anything you can give will be gratefully received, and it'll help keep us on the air. That's as straightforward as you could hope for. No games, no nothin'.
Who's your favourite Country singer?
Oh, I'm flexible. I like a wide range, but mainly enjoy traditionalist, rootsy sounding stuff, and especially traditionalist-yet-progressive. (Think Robbie Fulks, Hank 3, Wayne Hancock, BR5-49). I'm really, seriously into Kevin Fowler at the moment; rowdy does the heart good and the Lord loves the drinkin' man. (Trust me, I'm a Padre.) I'll always have a soft spot for the Holy Trinity: Jimmy Buffett / Steve Goodman / John Prine . (It's the stories, man.) I have a very small boy who's quite rightly into Chris LeDoux. That's why you'll hear 'Bang a Drum' quite a lot on our playlist; given half a chance, the child would listen to it 24/7.
What about rock? You like rock at all?
Yeh. Can't beat a bit of Floyd, really. Supertramp's pretty cool, too. My little boy keeps asking for ELO. He's got good taste. Here's the truth, though: I grew up in the age of arena rock and New Romantic brit-pop -- and I'm a product of my time. But my tastes overall are wide, wide, wide and what I really like, irrespective of genre, is good, substantial music -- with just enough filler-fluff to veg out as and when.
What about Nashville?
Well ... I don't hate Nashville for the sake of hating Nashville. Most of the modern stuff we spin is indie, and most of the older stuff is Outlaw, Bakersfield, Traditional, and pre-Americana. But ... at the end of the day, all I really want is Country music that sounds like Country music, and I won't begrudge Nashville when they get it right. If Nashville took their cue just a little more often from the likes of Dwight Yoakam or Daryle Singletary, we really wouldn't have a problem, now would we?
RIAA?
Yeh, they suck.
What's your favourite wine?
Beer.
What's your favourite whiskey?
Laphroig.
Did you know they invented Dr. Pepper in Texas?
Yeh. Waco, actually.
